Edinburghs Highland Reel and Strathspey society is a friendly
group of musicians who meet regularly and enjoy playing traditional
Scottish fiddle music.
Our
Kind of Music
What is great about our music is as soon as you hear it you
will know it - heart lifting foot tapping jigs and reels , like
De'il amang the Tailors and Speed the Plough and the Skye Jigs
- such as Kyleakin Ferry and the Muckin o Geordie's Byre - lively
country dances like the Glasgow Highlanders and Road to the
Isles haunting airs and waltzes like Ae fond Kiss and Glencoe
will transport you deep into the heart and spirit of the best
traditional Scottish music.
Our
Kind of Audience
We enjoy playing for our own pleasure and we love to hear
our audience accompanying us as they as they recognise favourites.
Scottish traditional music is popular with folks of all ages
and nationalities. We are fortunate to be based in Edinburgh
the focus of tourism and culture in Scotland and welcome all
from home and abroad to come and listen to and take part in
our Scottish music heritage.
Our
Kind of Player
There us no typical sort of player in our orchestra. In age
our players have ranged from 10 to 90. In ability our players
range from those who have had a thorough classical schooling
from early schooldays to those "born to the fiddle"
of playing traditional Scots fiddle - to those who have decided
in their later years to take the plunge and start from scratch
The only typical requirements are enthusiasm and plenty of
time to practice!
